PRTC views the women, men and young farmers we work with as partners
in our mission. Therefore we use modern participatory methods and tools
to help them plan and implement projects to meet their goals and needs.

Youth, women and men are trained on sustainable agriculture
to become progressive farmers in the following areas: food crop and
animal production, soil improvement and conservation, fish farming,
tree planting (including oil palm), bee-keeping, vegetable gardening,
community development, nutrition and farm economics.
We organise on a yearly basis:
• 3 Centre-based short courses for about 50 farmers (70% female),
• 10 village-based courses for 150-200 farmers (70% female),
• 1 Centre-based block course on sustainable agriculture for 25-30 participants
(30% female participation).
HIV/AIDS
Because of the growing urgent problem of HIV/AIDS, PRTC integrates
awareness and education about HIV/AIDS into all of its training programs
and extension work.
Medicinal Plants
The
use of local plants as medicine can go a long way to increase life
expectancy, reduce family medical bills and raise the
general living standards of the rural poor in Cameroon.
In 2002, PRTC established a center-based ecological medicinal garden
with 60 different types of medicinal plants. Some of the plants that
can be found in the garden are: Echinacea, Rosemary, Thyme, Turmeric,
Penny Royal, Red Clover, Vervain, and Lemon Balm.
PRTC trains local farmers and organizes workshops for farmers and
traditional practitioners in order to share knowledge on the use
of ecological herbal plants as medicines. These farmers have in turn
set up their own medicinal gardens in their respective villages.
